My top 12 tips to getting started

Follow these tips and you will look like a pro in no time.

  1. Organize with a gym before you go in to meet with someone to show you around if it’s your first visit so you can get familiar with everything.

  2. Wear gym clothes that you feel comfortable.

  3. Pre pack the gym bag in the morning and get changed before you leave work

  4. Pick a gym on the way to work or on the way home depending if you’re a morning or afternoon person.

  5. Pay for a trainer even if 30 mins a week to teach you technique and get you feeling comfortable in your surroundings and using weights which are easier to use then waiting for machines.

  6. Take a mate or get some good workout music downloaded, and chat to the trainers.

  7. Download some workout music that really gets you smiling and ready to work out.

  8. If you feel uncomfortable in a crowded gym then pick times it isn’t busy in the morning or later in the evening. A weekend is an excellent time for less people.

  9. If you don’t feel confident carrying around a gym program just take a pic of it on your phone so you don’t have to carry paper around with you.

  10. Focus on the task at hand and don’t worry about those around you. They all had to start somewhere and everyone is supportive especially about someone wanting to improve themselves for the better. Visual having a great workout and it will happen.

  11. If you don’t have a lot of time, ask your trainer for a 30 min routine.

  12. If want to spend as little time as possible in the gym then do more compound movements targeting a lot of muscles at one time.
